Storm over the port of Amsterdam
This was a scene I came across just on the outskirts of Amsterdam. A storm was brewing over the harbour on my way back to the shipyard that I was working in at the time. I had my paintbox in the car so pulled over and painted this from the passenger seat.

Taioma
This is the old Union company steam tug - Taioma. In her later semiretired life, she towed the bunker barge for BP and as a youngster I often followed her around the harbour on my bike.

SS Venture
This the SS Venture, the ship featured in the film 'King Kong' I had the adventurous task of being chief engineer on her and helped with the conversion from being a sorry 50 year old coaster to a very sad looking 80 year old tramp steamer, fake rivets, painted rust dummy funnel and all. It sure was an adventure with many intersting challenges tackled, highlight of which was when she sprung a big leak in the engineroom as we passed Mana Island in a swell. The painting depicts her in front of Kapiti Island. Most of the filming was carried out in this area and we sheltered behind the isalnd to repair the leak and at nights after filming.
