Summer in Lake Wanaka
Flock Hill is a sheep station on the route to the Westcoast that has wonderful facilities and rich painting subjects. We’ve had several enjoyable mid winter painting weekends here with the fun group of Canterbury artists.. Just down the road from here is the famous Cass Railway station, made famous by Rita Angus.
Whilst on a fun winter painting safari with a group of Canterbury artists camped in a sheep shearer’s cottage.
This is the narrow entrance to the Marlborough Sounds. A journey that I’ve made numerous times during my time working on the Wellington - Picton ferries.
TSS Earnslaw on Lake Wakitipu
The steamship, TSS Earnslaw was first shipped to Dunedun in kitset and then transported by road and rail to Queenstown. It was built up on the slipway on Frankton Arm and launched into Lake Wakatipu. Once a steady workhorse on the lake, working under the flag of NZ railways, it is now most popular for tourist excursions. It still has a working triple expansion, steam engine which can be viewed in action from a glass viewing platform.
